Pug Nation: A Better Pug for a Better America! That’s the theme of the Oregon Humane Society’s 12th Annual Pug Crawl, which is expected to host 500 pugs and their owners for the country’s largest “Pug Crawl.” Pints, politics and pugs will mix outside of MacTarnahan’s Taproom in Northwest Portland on Sunday, May 20 beginning at 1 pm.

The highlight of the event is the Parade of Pugs. Nearly 100 pugs are expected to walk the runway attired in a variety of costumes that celebrate the political theme of this year’s event. Will the winner be a Repuglican, a Demopug, or perhaps a third party pug? A celebrity panel of judges will elect the President and Vice President of Pug Nation based on the creativity of the costumes.

“All dogs are welcome to come to Pug Crawl, as the Pug Nation does not discriminate against breeds,” said David Lytle, spokesperson for the Oregon Humane Society. Like any good political event, there will be food, beer, live music, and refreshments. There will also be a pug kissing booth, retail booths selling pug-friendly items and live music. As many as 1,000 people are expected to attend.

A $10 admission donation is suggested, with 100% of donations going to help the animals at OHS. The Pug Crawl depends on volunteer staffing and the generosity of MacTarnahan’s Tap Room.

When: Sunday, May 20, 1 -4 pm. The Parade of Pugs begins at approximately 2:30. Register on-site for the parade beginning at 2 pm (no fee for entering the parade, which is limited to pugs in costume).

Where: MacTarnahan’s Tap Room, 2730 NW 31st Ave., Portland (directions: http://www.macsbeer.com/the-taproom/hours-and-locations )

Cost: $10 suggested donation to the Oregon Humane Society, pugs (and other dogs) free; kids 10 and under free.
