Oregon Humane Society’s Behavior Department offers an expanded range of classes and workshops to assist owners with their pet’s behavior issues. September’s offerings are listed below. SHY DOG CLASS:
This workshop will focus on training methods that boost you and your dog’s confidence and help you learn how to encourage your dog to be less afraid. You’ll learn to understand signs of stress in dogs and ways to calm and reassure without coddling.

PUPPY ROMPS:
Exposing your puppy to new dogs when he is young can help prevent behavioral problems as he matures. OHS trainers will be on hand to answer your questions about raising a puppy, potty-training, play-biting and more. For puppies five months old or younger.

PROBLEM POOCH CLASS:
This class is led by a certified pet trainer. It is for anyone who just entered pet parenthood, is considering adopting a new pet, or who is feeling frustrated with their four-legged friend.

BASIC MANNERS & ADVANCED MANNERS TRAINING CLASSES FOR PUPPIES & DOGS:
OHS dog training classes are fun, positive and easy to fit into your life. We’ll help teach your dog the basics of “sit,” “stay,” “down,” and loose-leash walking. Get techniques for getting your dog to take toys and treats nicely, how to focus on you, and how to come when called. We use real life scenarios so the skills you learn in class are easily transferred into everyday life. Dogs of varying skill levels and ages (and their humans), are welcome to attend. For puppies under 16 weeks old, we offer special classes to cover socialization, boundary-setting, setting your puppy up for success in the home, basic cues and tips on potty-training and crate-training. Instructors are experienced and certified trainers.

LITTLE LEARNERS DOG TRAINING
Feel like you could benefit from a training class tailored to you and your pint size pup’s needs? We will help you work on the usual basic cues such as, ‘come’, ‘stay’, ‘leave it’, etc., but will target some necessary trainings specifically for your small dog. We will help provide solutions for jumping up on people, barking, appropriate socialization with new dogs and people, and more! Your dog must be 20 pounds or smaller and at least 4 months of age.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN PREP CLASSES:
We offer a 6-week specialized dog training course designed to help you and your canine companion pass the American Kennel Club’s widely recognized certification – the Canine Good Citizen test (CGC). Check out akc.org for details on the CGC test. On the last night of class you will test for the CGC with your trainer. Prerequisite: Completion of a basic manners/obedience class.

PRIVATE TRAINING CONSULTATION:
Are you having behavior problems with your four-legged friend? Schedule a one-on-one private training consultation at OHS with one of our certified pet dog trainers who can offer tips and advice on how to control your dog with positive reinforcement. You will learn practical tools to improve your dog-handling skills. Common issues people seek help with include excessive barking, home alone issues, leash reactivity, hyperactivity and timidity. Don’t be embarrassed about your dog’s level of training – we’ve seen it all! Consultations are also available for cat owners who need help with issues like litter box training, aggressive behavior or introducing a new cat into the home.
